IFM just recently completed a succesful start up of a new membrane system for a major automotive manufacturer designed to filter spent lubricating fluids and send clean water with very low level of oil and grease to the local POTW. IFM was involved also in the overall design of the entire project during engineering of other treatment components critical to the operation of the membrane system.
The design was based on using Ultrafiltration System Technology to essentially dewater the spent emulsified oily fluids and concentrate the oils prior to disposal.
Using crossflow filtration technology, Koch FEG membrane technology and specifically designed controls package, IFM successfully designed, built and started up two parallel 50 GFD (gallons / ft2 / day) filtration systems.
The systems are currently producing clear effluent with oil and grease levels around 50 mg/l going to the POTW. The residual oils are being concentrated from approximately 2,500 mg/l (0.25 %) upwards near 30% total oil concentrations. Process runs are yielding approximately 400,000 gallons of high quality effluent and approximately 3,000 gallons of concentrated oil for disposal between membrane cleanings.
